I'll justify watching American Idol because of my job (but, I'm hooked!)

The first cuts based on popular votes happened last night - here's who got the axe:

• Paul - his "Careless Whisper" was apparently a little too careless
  
• Amy - her version of "I Can't Make You Love Me" was unfortunately true
  
• Nicole - although she sang "Stay," the people said "GO!"
  
• Rudy - his "Free Ride" just couldn't take him all the way
